Make the hike worthwhile

Make the hike up the steep flight of stairs to Old school worthwhile!

If getting the chance to name artworks is not enough to satiate your arty appetites, don't fret, we've tailored a full day itinary for you to make your trip down to Old School a fruitful. Suitable for culture vultures or anyone seeking a retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life, right smack in the centre of the city.

Since you're at the Art Studio at Old School, you might as well...

1) Catch a local film at Sinema OldSchool, the independent cinema dedicated to Singapore films.

Sinema Old School is the first and only high-definition cinema solely devoted to Singapore films. This truly indie 130-seater cinema space also hopes to be a permanent venue for local bands’ breakout gigs, technology workshops and master-classes, film forums and dialogue sessions.

Don't forget to visit the Sinema Store for local music CDs and DVDs. A treasure cove!

2) Have recess at Recess!

THE appropriately named Recess is just a stone's throw from Bistro GAGA, and if you're looking for a place to wind down with a snack and a drink, this is a most pleasant option. It comprises a small white-tiled cafe - not much more than a counter with some seating, really - and a nicely shaded, more expansive al fresco area, on a wooden deck adjacent to an empty field.

Daily specials such as nasi goreng ($5.50) supplement the permanent menu, which features all-day canteen-style fare such as salads, pastas and sandwiches, plus finger food like samosas and sotong balls. It may not be a full-fledged restaurant, but Recess has what it takes if you're looking for somewhere simple and breezy to chill out.
